Feeling like an Impostor: Why you feel this way and what you can do about it
Imposter phenomena is very real. We feel this way from time to time, I personally have had that same crazy feeling of “being found out.” As if everything I was doing wasn’t good enough and someone would come and take away my job someday.
It's important for women (and men) to understand that what they are feeling can be "turned around" to where they can use it to fuel their success and celebrate their accomplishments. Being able to do this can greatly reduce their stress.
Here are a few tips to try when you feel that phenomena coming on:
1. Make a list
Make a list of your accomplishments and the work you had to do to achieve them without editing. Refer back to this list when you are questioning whether you actually deserve to be there. It’s a great reminder!
2. Pay attention
Pay attention to your thoughts and become aware when your impostor thoughts begin to take hold of you. If you recognize them, you can take control of them.
3. Acknowledge
Acknowledge that every setback is an opportunity for learning and be compassionate with yourself. If you learn something, it hasn’t been a failure it all.
